VVVVVV is a pretty amazing game built on the simple ability to flip gravity at will. It was well worth the $5 I paid on Steam.
(I’m pretty sure I found this through Adam, but now I can’t find where)
Update 5/2012 - A great spin-off of this game is MMMMMM, introducing crazy diagonal jumping.
Jesse Schell - DICE 2010: “Design Outside the Box”
A talk about the future of reality gaming.
I particularly liked one example - Lee Shellman of the University of Indiana is grading his class differently: students get experience points by how well they do at assignments, they level up through the class, and their final level determines their grade. I had this idea last week and am really excited to see it happening - if I ever decide to teach a course somewhere, I will definitely use it.
An example of a Starcraft tournament match. Very impressive.
